Photo by Heathcliff Omalley..Sagar Island, West Bengal, India 25 March 2007..A macabre looking raking tool used by Muslim women to scour for coins left by Hindu Pilgrims lies in the sand on Gangasagar beach..Gangasagar is situated on the southern tip of Sagar Island in the bay of Bengal where the River Ganges finally meets the ocean after it's 1500 mile journey from the Himalayas. Annually the island plays host to hundreds of thousands of Hindu pilgrims .who take part in the Gangasagar Mela festival bathing en masse, washing away their sins.
